Madrid Goes Wild for Ye on a Historic Night: The Year’s Most Anticipated and Spectacular Comeback

Ye returned to Spain after twenty years and turned Madrid’s Metropolitano into the setting for one of the most spectacular concerts of the year. Or perhaps the most spectacular. Nearly 65,000 people attended a night defined by thunderous sound, a monumental stage production and a setlist spanning different chapters of his career.

Fans travelled to Madrid from across the world, many of them affected by the cancellation of other European dates. The audience included concertgoers from Italy, the United Kingdom, France and Belgium, some of whom had rearranged holidays and travel plans exclusively to witness his return. Thousands of fans also travelled from across Spain and throughout the Madrid region, turning the concert into a major meeting point for both national and international audiences.

The Dome, the Roar and an Entire Stadium Surrendered

Ye appeared walking towards the entrance of the dome as a thunderous bass vibration shook the stadium, hitting the body before he had even taken his position. From there, he climbed to the highest point of the structure, which remained the visual centrepiece of the show throughout the night. There were no lengthy pauses. The songs flowed into one another and kept the audience in a state of constant anticipation from beginning to end.

KING opened the show in a slightly shorter version before connecting directly with Father Stretch My Hands. During Can’t Tell Me Nothing, the audience sang the choruses with such force that, at times, it seemed to take ownership of the song.

Blue lasers cut across the stadium during Niggas in Paris. Then Praise God delivered one of the first major eruptions of the night. The crowd recited the entire introduction while the vibration of the bass became a genuine roar. The sound could be felt throughout the body and literally made the stands shake.

During Black Skinhead, Ye disappeared inside the dome before emerging again moments later. On Sight triggered another explosion as soon as its opening loop began.

For Blood on the Leaves, the dome turned completely red, creating one of the most imposing atmospheres of the concert. Alex, who had travelled from Italy with a group of friends, was particularly struck by that moment and by the scale of the staging.

The “ohhhhh, ohhhhh” chant from CARNIVAL made the stadium shake once again. During Power, planet Earth appeared across the dome while Ye visually dominated the entire scene.

A Dome in Constant Motion

After Bound 2, Say You Will and Heartless, Andre Troutman joined Ye with his talkbox during ALL THE LOVE. Their images were projected across the dome, integrating the collaboration into the visual spectacle.

During FATHER, the crowd erupted and Ye, visibly surprised by the response, asked everyone to raise their hands and clap. EVERYBODY was one of the most acclaimed songs of the night, while during PUNCH DRUNK, fans improvised dance moves in their seats as beams of light rose from the dome into the sky.

American Boy kept the entire stadium dancing and recording the moment on their phones. It was followed by Jesus Walks and All Falls Down, which received an explosive reaction as soon as the opening guitar chords were heard.

During Gold Digger, thousands of heads moved in time with every rhyme. Touch the Sky was sung so loudly that the audience nearly overpowered the sound system before the track flowed directly into Good Life. Homecoming became one of the most loudly sung and widely danced songs of the entire night.

Lasers, Fireworks and a Stadium Turned into Light

All of the Lights combined fireworks with crossing laser beams. During Flashing Lights, thousands of fans switched on their phone flashlights, covering the stands in countless points of light.

Tom, who had travelled from the United Kingdom while on holiday, came specifically to attend the concert. After the show, he was still struck by the atmosphere created during Flashing Lights and by the production’s lighting. He also left with a video of Black Skinhead that, he said, he would keep forever and never stop watching.

The high point of this section arrived with Stronger. The Earth projected across the dome began to rotate faster and faster in time with an extended version of the song.

Juan, from Madrid, chose it as the most memorable moment: “The most impressive moment was during Stronger. I loved the version he performed and the way the Earth accelerated on the screen in time with the song.”

A Finale Worthy of a Historic Night

After Ghost Town, whose chorus was sung a cappella by the audience, Ye needed only a single note to introduce Runaway. The stadium recognised the song immediately and responded with one of the loudest roars of the night. Ye worked through the track using a MIDI controller while the audience followed every fragment.

The concert closed with Hey Mama as the world continued rotating across the dome and Ye’s giant image dominated the sphere. Surrounded by lights, projections and a stadium still completely absorbed in the spectacle, the artist descended and left the structure almost unnoticed. The audience continued staring upwards, caught in the scene, and took several seconds to realise that the concert had ended.

Ye lived up to a comeback that had been awaited for twenty years. The power of the sound made the Metropolitano shake, while the dome, projections and lighting created a monumental stage production. The setlist moved through different chapters of his career without losing intensity, and the audience responded with unwavering energy. It was an ambitious, commanding and visually striking concert, capable of transforming an entire stadium into Ye’s universe. One of the year’s greatest live spectacles. Or perhaps the most spectacular and anticipated of them all.
